| a night without armor | Jewel | Interesting poetry with several insights into her life. She is obviously still young, but she is thinking and learning. |
| Collected Poems | Emily Dickinson | |

| The Cowboy and the Vampire | Clark Hays & Kathleen McFall | This was entertaining and I really liked the humor. |
| Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone | J. K. Rowling | The children and I enjoyed reading this together. |
| Hunting Party | Elizabeth Moon | #1 Adventure story in space with strong female characters but don't forget the horseback riding. Author has a background in the military. |

| Rules of Engagement | Elizabeth Moon | #5 Very dramatic story that has received critical acclaim. Be prepared. |
| Change of Command | Elizabeth Moon | #6 Stories continue with many new plotlines. This is the first book in the series which doesn't stand alone so make sure you are ready to get the next one as well. |
| Into Thin Air | Jon Krakauer | A personal account of the 1996 Mt. Everest Disaster. A moving and gripping tale that gives a detailed feeling of what it is like to attempt the mountain. The beginning of the ascent sounds like a wonderful place to hike and see natual beauty, but I wouldn't even want to go as far as Lobuje. The final stage is over 5 miles high with little air to breathe. It is the cruising altitude of big planes and even helicopters cannot fly high enough to attempt rescues. Most people can barely get themselves up and back again so it is surprising that anyone ever gets rescued when they cannot move under their own power. |
